It will be Hi/Lo and stay that way for the foreseable future.
We'll start out with the league points for the 1st cpl weeks and once settled in, switch to the elo system that Dan F. uses for the Tucson tourneys. Doubles only. I won't be running any singles tournaments. |

Good question Joe, thinking about that a little bit, maybe what I'll do instead is rank players starting with:
1. Dan's elo points (he's got most of the Arizona players listed)
2. League points (If they are not in Dan's system)
3. VIFA and/or IFP (If not in Dan's or League system)
4. no ranking, determine points based on skill level of player (this would largely be guesswork, but hopefully we can get an idea based on how that person plays in a couple pickup games)
I'll start off with Dan's recent October points list he posted in the forum and the most recent league points I can get my hands on it.
This would be only for the first couple weeks, once we've established the points for regulars, I'll switch over to the elo system permanently.

Nothing fancy- collect the names of players, determine their current points, Split top half (A players) and bottom half (B players) and randomly draw A to B. There will be a few players right in the middle that will switch back and forth between A and B depending on the turnouts. If some players are better/worse than their ranking suggests, elo will fix that quickly enough after a few tournaments.
I've played with this format back east and for the most part everyone likes it- sometimes there are cases where a high ranking B player will draw a high ranking A player and some folks will be unhappy about that, but thats the nature of the draw. At least with Hi-Lo you won't get two A players against two B players. |

Good turnout tonight- 8 teams. There were some pretty good games. Started at 7:15 and last match ended at 10:30.
$180 pot.

Right, it always seemd to work out that way, with league ending before a Tuc/Phx tourney in Phoenix, but with the Tucson/Phoenix tourney in Tucson this weekend, it didn't work out that way. Most of the league people don't play in the regular dyp/byps, so I doubt they would want to drive to Tucson just for the league championship. |
